Our efforts have been inspired by Aldo Leopold's quote, "Acts of creation are ordinarily reserved for gods and poets, but humbler folk may circumvent this restriction if they know how. To plant a pine, for example, one need be neither god nor poet; one need only own a shovel." (A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There).
In 2006 this lead us to begin planting our pecan orchard. Today we manage 300 pecan trees and are still growing. It is a joy watching the trees mature and bear the most delightful pecan kernels year after year. Over time our nut consumers have developed a true appreciation for the fine quality of Izzo Pecans.
The health and nutritional value of consuming fresh nuts is long established. The International Nut Council found tree nut consumers were 25% less likely to be obese and 21% less likely to have an elevated waist circumference than those who did not consume tree nuts. Eating pecans can lower cholesterol more effectively than commonly prescibed medication. Antioxidants in pecans are also effictive in preventing heart disease and other deseases.(Pecan Nutritions referenced from Loma Linda University)
